Marco Cattaneo, managing editor of National Geographic Italy,
in the issue of May 2014,
as part of a study on food writes the following:
If you think the main threat to the environment both industry and transport, you are mistaken. The most serious danger for Planet is what we put on the table for dinner. The lands used for agriculture and animal breeding are two-fifths of the land. Agriculture is the main source of water consumption and pollution. Among deforestation and the methane produced from the farm, our need for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars, trucks, planes, trains and ships put together.
